Nightline Freiburg e.V.

Christmas Donation 2014

Exam stress, research paper deadlines, lovesickness, difficulty finding a place to live, and a tight student budget – these are worries that can give Freiburg students sleepless nights. But thankfully there’s a place for them to turn to on such nights: the “Nightline,” an anonymous telephone and email helpline staffed by fellow students trained in active listening.
Founded in 2002, the association now has 40 student volunteers helping students with their problems and worries every evening from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Christmas Donation 2015

SCHLÜSSELMENSCH e.V.

The student initiative Schlüsselmensch e.V. (roughly, “key person initiative”) supports refugee and traumatized children and youths by pairing them with individual sponsors. The work is very time-consuming and requires a lot of attentiveness, encompassing everything from helping the children with their homework, going on excursions with them, and supporting their families on correspondence with and visits to public authorities.

Uni für Alle

The student initiative “Uni für Alle” was founded in June 2015 with the goal of making it easier for refugees to qualify for a regular course of study in Germany through a guest student program with an accompanying buddy program. Around 40 regular students are currently supporting refugees interested in studying during their first weeks as guest students.

Pre-Course for Refugees

German language skills of at least level C1 are a prerequisite for studying at the University of Freiburg. The Language Teaching Center of the University of Freiburg offers a propaedeutic pre-course for qualified refugees to provide them with a recognized language certificate corresponding to the German Language Test for International Students at German Institutions of Higher Education (DSH).
